The 3rd annual Nelson Giving Back match-up with Brush Up Sioux Falls is complete!

The Nelson team spent their workday on Friday painting a house for Salvation Army’s “Brush Up Sioux Falls”. Over 30 teammates and family members joined together to scrap, power wash, paint and re-assemble the house and shed. The house, itself, was a split-level home located on a higher-traffic street in a beautiful Sioux Falls neighborhood. The owner has been widowed for some time and mentioned that painting the house was a project her husband wanted to complete, but never could before he passed. It was a pleasure getting to know the owner and see her and her son engaging with our group throughout the day. Now, when people drive by, her house will look just as beautiful and full of life like her landscaping.

About the “Brush Up Sioux Falls” Paint-A-Thon Program

The Salvation Army “Brush Up Sioux Falls” Paint-A-Thon partnership program with Norberg Paints, Xcel Energy, and community volunteers has been going on for over 26 years now. Elderly or disabled members of the community can sign up or be nominated to have their house painted at no cost to them. There is often an overabundance of houses and not enough volunteers, but Nelson is fortunate to have a large enough group with the right equipment that we can typically handle one of the larger homes on the list.

Every home is unique. Every homeowner’s story is different. We can’t wait to see what next year holds for us!
